The story of PAPADUSHI
Orange and blue. These two colors represent my homeland. Orange for the Netherlands, where I was born. Blue for the sea, which has surrounded me since childhood.
In 1994, love brought me to Germany to be with my wife Marion.
Two years earlier, she had the courage to start her own business with the Hotel Schloss
Peace Stream. Together we have made it a home. A
Place full of life and full of stories.
The picture you see here was painted for me by my cousin Karen de Bondt. It captures my whole life. On the right is my wife. Behind the horse are my three daughters, who
with passion in the saddle. One of them even as German Champion
and Vice European Champion. The horse – our family symbol. Flowers and spices,
Symbol of my love for flavors. And in my hand a clover leaf. My
Companion to happiness.
My first dushi moment began early. In 1980, I was eleven years old. My parents (both restaurateurs) took me to a tavern. Loud, smoky, and bustling with life.
My father ordered for me. A plate of spare ribs arrived. The first bite changed everything. That's when I knew: I wanted to recreate that magic myself.
From then on, I tried everything my father offered me. He just said: "Close your eyes and
Open your mouth. If you don't like it, spit it out." This is how I learned flavors
that have stayed with me to this day. Some I liked, others I didn't. But
I always knew that in the end, something had to be created that touched people.
My family supported me. My parents, who opened the world of cooking to me. My wife, who stuck with me to this dream. My daughters, who
showed me that passion and perseverance are rewarded. Even though I often
failed – they always believed in me.
This is how Dushi was born. Not overnight, but from a lifetime of experiences. Dushi is more than a marinade. It's a piece of home. A
A piece of love. A piece of happiness. It combines the flavors of the Netherlands,
Germany, Asia, and the Caribbean. A taste that lasts.
"Dushi" means loving, sweet, good, and beautiful in Papiamento. For me, it's a way of life. Enjoy life. Every moment. Every bite.
And that's exactly what I want to share with you. On your plate. In your kitchen. In the taste that accompanies you.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
I would be happy if PAPADUSHI also became part of your kitchen and history.
